SIX PERCENT FOR INTELLECTUAL DIVERSITY
I count it a great few days that my readers have come from across the political spectrum. A recent study suggests that left-wing bloggers spend most of their time among their ideological kin and rightist bloggers spend most of their time with their ilk. Only 6% of political blog readers regularly visit both left and right blogs. So thanks to new neoconservatives,Rustbelt liberals, and Canadian feminist-socialists for finding their way here. I'm happy to be part of the proud six percent. I'll be visiting your sites regularly.

Happy to find you too. Keep on keepin' on in the rustbelt!
It is a bit disturbing how I embrace the like-minded blogs and just plain don't read the opposing arguments. But they raise my blood pressure so ...
That's okay, though. I have my Ohio relatives to keep me informed of the view from the right. They pray for me regularly.
My prayers to both of you! Seriously, there's a lot to be learned by keeping up with "the other side." The U.S. left has often failed to grapple rigorously with political and economic power--they dismiss rightists, often righteously, without dismantling them. Or they throw up a picket line or stage a theatrical demonstration without developing a powerful intellectual or political alternative. The most rigorous intellectuals I know (two of them, both on the left) read deeply and widely in right-wing blogs and periodicals along with a steady diet of liberal and left periodicals.
Assuming that your side is right--and posturing on the moral high ground--might feel good, but it's not a very effective tactic for social change.
Any right-wing blog suggestions for future reading?
I prefer intelligent conservative blogs to the knee-jerk and often factually challenged--but well-known--sites like Front Page Magazine. I recently discovered www.neoneocon.com, whose posts are often wrong but usually thoughtful. Further to the right is No Left Turns, the Ashbrook Center blog, which is a haven for paleo-conservative thinkers. http://noleftturns.ashbrook.org/ The MSM has fallen in love with Ross Douthat at the Atlantic, who advocates injecting a strong dose of Clintonism into the Republican Party. He can be found at http://rossdouthat.theatlantic.com/
There are more, but these are a good start.
