THE PITBULL ON THIN ICE

I've never been much of a hockey fan, despite my Midwestern heritage. Everything about hockey is white: the season, the players, the fans, the culture.

When Ed Snider, the owner of the Philadelphia Flyers invited Sarah Palin to drop the first puck at last night's Flyers-Rangers game, Republicans and Democrats alike assumed that this would be a celebratory moment for the Pitbull with Lipstick to rally her Rustbelt white middle-class base.

Instead, the Flyers fans booed. (The Republicans should have known that Philly sports fans are infamously hostile, especially when they smell blood.)

It was a proud moment for this adopted Philadelphian. The pitbull with lipstick has been defanged by her own kind, hockey moms and hockey dads. If the GOP can't win them, their effort to take the White House is on thin ice.

Hey guys, I just wanted to say, I just found your blog and am really liking it. Great stuff.

As far as Palin in Philly, I said it once, and I'll say it again:

Philly fans would've booed the Virgin Mary outside of the manger if they'd have been there.

You're right boukman that Philly fans are brutal. Santa Claus got booed and pelted with snowballs at an Eagles game. Flyers fans have been known to shower batteries on the ice. When former Mayor John Street showed up at an Eagles game (he was never popular among whites from the city or suburbs), he was greeted with one of the loudest prolonged boos in Boobird history. There's another way of interpreting the Palin's great boo on Saturday: it was a reminder of the ineptness of the McCain/Palin campaign team. Had they even the slightest clue about Philly fans proclivity to nastiness, they would have made other plans. But on this, as on most things these days, Rove, Jr., et al are clueless.
